Thievery Corporation

Since debuting in the mid-'90s, Washington, D.C.'s Thievery Corporation have remained one of the most popular acts associated with chilled-out, lounge-friendly electronic music. Initially known for making abstract, instrumental, midtempo dance music whose classification fell somewhere between trip-hop and acid jazz, their sound expanded to include vocalists and live instrumentation on 2000's The Mirror Conspiracy (their most popular album in the United States), which was heavily influenced by bossa nova and soul. Their albums, from 2002's The Richest Man in Babylon onward, have become increasingly more political, reflecting their antiwar, pro-humanity stance in addition to their appreciation of all of the world's cultures. Likewise, their music has explored several additional influences and genres, including Indian classical, hip-hop, and reggae. Following the dark psychedelia of 2005's The Cosmic Game, 2008's Radio Retaliation was a protest album incorporating styles such as Afro-beat and go-go, and the Jamaica-recorded The Temple of I & I was devoted to dub and reggae.

Mike Love

Mike Love is a musician devoted to revolution through sound. Born in O’ahu, Hawaii to a family of musicians, Mike has used music as a conversation for as long as he can remember. He comes from a unique convergence of influences, yet all are bound by their common ambition to inspire positive change in the world. He releases his music independently on his own Love Not War Records label, and his sound, while rooted in the spirituality and message-based music of roots reggae, fuses a variety of influences including progressive and classic rock, soul, blues, flamenco, jazz, classical, and more.

Mike’s songs possess wisdom and seek to instill change, whether it be regarding issues of the environment, animal cruelty, or personal growth. They are about being conscious and mindful as human beings living among so many other life forms on this beautiful planet. For Mike, music is a form of healing, learning, and growing.
