Levitt Pavilion Denver Nominated by Pollstar as Best New Concert Venue
The Know
Denver’s clout as a music city is growing, and Pollstar, a national music industry trade publication, is taking notice.
The publication’s upcoming 29th Annual Pollstar Awards has nominated two Denver venues for national distinctions.
Levitt Pavilion Denver, which held its first show on July 20 in Ruby Hill Park, is among the nominees for Best New Concert Venue. The 17,000-capacity, non-profit owned and operated venue is up against five others, including Nanterre, France’s splashy U Arena, a concert and sports venue that was opened with three Rolling Stones concerts in late October.
Denver’s Bellco Theatre is one of six venues nominated for Theatre of the Year. However, it’s up against Nashville’s The Ryman Auditorium, which has won the award for the past seven consecutive years.
Why no Red Rocks, you ask? The venue won the award for Best Small Outdoor Concert Venue so many times that they renamed it the Red Rocks Award in 2000 and took the venue out of consideration.
One of Denver’s seat fillers also got a nod in this year’s round of nominations. Don Strasburg, VP and senior talent buyer of AEG Presents Rocky Mountains, is up for Talent Buyer of the Year.
The nominees are decided by a panel of more than 200 promoters, managers, agents and other music industry professionals. Winners will be announced Feb. 8 at Los Angeles’ Wiltern Theatre.
